At Planet Chiropractic we understand that while the basic premise for chiropractic care is the same whether the patient is 80 years old or 8 months old, the growing, active, and constantly changing bodies of children can have specific chiropractic care needs. We are proud that Dr. Butt is an expert in in chiropractic care for kids and serves as the president of the Georgia Pediatric Association for Chiropractors.
In general, children respond quicker and more profoundly to chiropractic care than adults. They haven’t pushed their bodies through years of abuse and accompanying wear and tear as their fellow adult patients. Parents need to be aware of certain indicators to watch for when considering whether or not to sign up for chiropractic cared for kids. Parents should watch for postural changes, babies only wanting to breast feed from one side, kids struggling with being off-balance, or if they start to run with a hitch or catch in their stride.
Additionally, Planet Chiropractic cares for a lot of pregnant mommies and this care is often passed on to the baby after birth. We understand that childbirth puts a great deal of physical stress on the baby. In fact, this is where a lot of the structural problems begin—during childbirth. Most of the mothers who go through our pre-natal plan will have their babies adjusted within a few days after birth.
When evaluating the structural integrity of kids Dr. Butt pays close attention to patterns of movement and restriction. He watches how they interact with others and places them in different positions to see if they constantly hold their head awkwardly or are restricted in their range of motion.
This same restriction in range of motion or structural tilt can happen with babies. If there is a structural problem they will consistently demonstrate the problem.
When it comes to treatment it's really gentle with the force Dr. Butt uses in making an adjustment no stronger than the amount you would use to test the ripeness of a fruit or vegetable. It's never a significant force whether with kids or with babies.
